During the Community Cabinet visit, Premier Brumby announced a $2.4
million grant to establish a National Centre for Farmer Health in
Hamilton. This important local initiative forms part of the $205
million Future Farming – Productive, Competitive and Sustainable
strategy announced in Horsham on 23 April. The strategy is designed to
boost farming services, drive growth and innovation in agriculture and
help the sector respond to new challenges.
In
Hamilton, the Premier also announced a $45.7 million State Budget boost
for Victoria’s air ambulance services. The upgrade includes an
additional emergency air ambulance helicopter, based in Warrnambool,
improving response times in south-west Victoria.
In Stawell, Minister Pike announced that Stawell West Primary School
had been given $500,000 to upgrade the classrooms, staff and
administrative areas as well as indoor and outdoor teaching spaces at
the school. This important announcement is part of the Brumby
Government’s Better Schools Today initiative which is modernising facilities in primary schools across Victoria.
In Halls Gap, Minister Allan announced a $250,000 grant to the Northern
Grampians Shire Council for the Halls Gap Water Harvest and Re-use
Project. This $375,000 project, at the Halls Gap Recreation Reserve,
involves harvesting, diverting, storing and re-using stormwater for
irrigation of the recreation oval and landscaping improvements to the
recreation reserve.
The formal submissions put forward by the residents and community
organisations of Northern Grampians and Southern Grampians presented
Ministers and senior Government officials with a wide range of issues.
