Northern & Southern Grampians: 21 - 22 April 2008

The 82nd Community Cabinet was held in the Northern Grampians Shire and Southern Grampians Shire on 21 - 22 April 2008.

Community Cabinet is a very important part of the Brumby Government’s listening to Victoria. Listening to the views of Victorians is very important in making sure that local communities play a real role and participate in the Government of Victoria.

That’s what community cabinet is all about.

During the Community Cabinet visit, Premier Brumby announced a $2.4 million grant to establish a National Centre for Farmer Health in Hamilton.   This important local initiative forms part of the $205 million Future Farming – Productive, Competitive and Sustainable strategy announced in Horsham on 23 April.  The strategy is designed to boost farming services, drive growth and innovation in agriculture and help the sector respond to new challenges.

Jacinta AllanIn Hamilton, the Premier also announced a $45.7 million State Budget boost for Victoria’s air ambulance services.  The upgrade includes an additional emergency air ambulance helicopter, based in Warrnambool, improving response times in south-west Victoria.

In Stawell, Minister Pike announced that Stawell West Primary School had been given $500,000 to upgrade the classrooms, staff and administrative areas as well as indoor and outdoor teaching spaces at the school.  This important announcement is part of the Brumby Government’s Better Schools Today initiative which is modernising facilities in primary schools across Victoria.

In Halls Gap, Minister Allan announced a $250,000 grant to the Northern Grampians Shire Council for the Halls Gap Water Harvest and Re-use Project.  This $375,000 project, at the Halls Gap Recreation Reserve, involves harvesting, diverting, storing and re-using stormwater for irrigation of the recreation oval and landscaping improvements to the recreation reserve.

The formal submissions put forward by the residents and community organisations of Northern Grampians and Southern Grampians presented Ministers and senior Government officials with a wide range of issues.
