During the Community Cabinet visit, Premier Brumby marked the completion of the Goldfields Superpipe, a $180 million project to secure Ballarat’s water supply, with water flowing through the pipe for the first time. The completion of this vital project means people living and working throughout the region can now plan for and invest in the future with renewed confidence.
In Maryborough, the Premier and Minister Allan announced that the Brumby Government will provide $2.18 million to develop an industrial estate in Maryborough. This project will boost the local economy, creating 45 new jobs for the area and generate $8.5 million in new investment in its first three years.
The Premier and Minster Holding commissioned a new bore, in Moorlort, to increase water security for Maryborough and surrounding towns. The Premier also marked the start of construction of the second bore during the visit. The new groundwater sources will supplement Maryborough’s current surface water supplies from Talbot, Evansford and Tullaroop Reservoirs. The new bore has the capacity to deliver around 500 million litres each year with an additional 305 million litres from the second bore.
In Hepburn, Minsters Cameron and Andrews turned the first sod at the site of a new SES and Rural Ambulance Victoria joint facility. The new $2.3 million facility will consist of a garage bay, training room, kitchen, office and communications room.
In Creswick, Minister Allan announced a $212,000 grant to help boost tourism through the establishment of an Interpretive Centre and tourist precinct. The Creswick Interpretive Centre Precinct will provide a leading tourism experience for visitors to explore, interpret and better understand the history and wealth of tourism attractions in the Creswick region.
The submissions put forward by the residents and community organisations of Central Goldfields and Hepburn Shires presented Ministers and senior Government officials with a wide range of issues.
