Commemorating The Service And Sacrifice Of Our Veterans

Minister for Veterans John Eren today announced more than $500,000 to help communities commemorate the sacrifice of local veterans and raise awareness among the wider community about their service.

The Andrews Labor Government is supporting nine projects worth $438,780 under the Victoria Remembers Grant Program, including:

  • $50,000 for the Ballarat Arch of Victory/Avenue of Honour Committee for a public garden and statue in memorial to the mothers and families of service personnel
  • $53,450 for the Gannawarra Shire Council to digitally preserve the images and stories of the diverse local World War One service community
  • $80,000 for the Rotary Club of Euroa for a memorial park
  • $60,000 for Open Channel to produce four commemorative films on the personal stories of young Australians
  • $25,000 for the Craigieburn War Memorial, for all conflicts at the new Municipal Park, ANZAC Park.

The Program supports projects that help communities make personal connections to the Anzac Centenary or other wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

The Labor Government and the Victorian Veterans Council (VVC) are also supporting eight projects worth $64,667 under the Anzac Centenary Community Grants Program, commemorating World War One veterans and their communities, including:

  • $5,000 for the Albert Park-South Melbourne Rowing Club to produce a two month 50 item exhibition focusing on members who enlisted in WWI
  • $3,000 for the Berwick Lodge Primary School to construct a memorial space
  • $8,536 towards Buninyong’s Heroes of World War I Community Memorial Walk

The funding builds on the Labor Government’s work to commemorate the service of our veterans, with $5 million for the Centenary of Anzac and $1 million to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan.
