Clare Amies Appointed Chief Executive Of WorkSafe

12 June 2015

A meeting of WorkSafe staff was called for this afternoon where Minister for Finance, Robin Scott, announced the appointment of Clare Amies as the new Chief Executive of WorkSafe Victoria.

Following a comprehensive and competitive recruitment process, Ms Amies was selected as the preferred candidate by an independent selection panel.

Ms Amies takes on the Chief Executive role at a critical time for WorkSafe, with a number of major projects underway. The Geelong relocation program is ramping up and the tender for 2016 has commenced.

Ms Amies joined WorkSafe in 2009 and has held a number of senior leadership roles, most recently as Executive Director - Insurance, with responsibility for workers compensation, return to work, premium, and self-insurance operations.

Ms Amies’ experience and detailed knowledge of WorkSafe's business, combined with her open and collaborative leadership style means that she is well placed to lead WorkSafe, particularly as the relocation of the WorkSafe head office to Geelong progresses.

Prior to joining WorkSafe Ms Amies held a number of senior roles including as the Chief Executive Officer of the Western Region Health Centre, a community health centre providing a range of health and support services to Melbourne's western suburbs.

Ms Amies has been Acting Chief Executive since early March, and in that time she has worked to strengthen WorkSafe's relationships with key stakeholders.

Workplace safety and helping Victorians get back to work after injury is a key priority of the Andrews Labor Government, and Clare Amies will help oversee the vital role WorkSafe plays in our community.
