Major projects completed or underway include:

  • Northern Mallee Pipeline and Wimmera-Mallee Pipeline projects
  • $1 billion irrigation infrastructure upgrade in northern Victoria saving 225 gigalitres of water, or half as much water as all households in Victoria use in a year, which will be shared equally between irrigators, rivers and househoulds and industry
  • Goldfields Superpipe link to Ballarat under construction and due for completion June 2008
  • $52 million upgrade of the Eildon Dam wall and spillway
  • $160m upgrade of the Western Treatment Plant to recycle more water for farms and industries
  • A $10 million Stormwater and Urban Water Conservation Fund to develop infrastructure and projects to collect and store stormwater
  • Multiple water and sewerage infrastructure upgrades in country towns across Victoria

The next stage of the Our Water Our Future, plan will see $4.9 billion spent on major water infrastructure projects to provide the biggest boost to Victoria’s water supplies in 25 years. 

Major projects include:

  • $3.1 billion desalination plant
  • $1 billion irrigation infrastructure upgrade in northern Victoria saving 225 gigalitres of water, or half as much water as all households in Victoria use in a year, which will be shared equally between irrigators, rivers and househoulds and industry.
  • $142 million Geelong-Melbourne Pipeline
  • $33 million Hamilton-Grampians Pipeline
  • $300 million upgrade to recycle water from Melbourne’s  Eastern Treatment Plant
  • Continuing water conservation programs for households and industry
