Southern Metropolitan region includes the Royal Botanic Gardens and Government House, Albert Park Lake, Cranbourne, Frankston, Rippon Lea mansion, the Caulfield Racecourse, Como Park, and Fishermans Bend industrial area as well as a number of commercial and shopping districts.

Some of the projects the Brumby Government is taking action to secure water for all Victorians communities include:

1.

Desalination plant in the Wonthaggi region and 85km pipeline to Melbourne, and secure water for towns on the Bass Coast and Phillip Island.

2.

Provide $1000 rebate for large water tanks.

3.

South East Water supplied over 2 billion litres of recycled water to agricultural customers on the Mornington Peninsula.

4.

Set target for industry to reduce water use by 10%.

5.

Eastern Irrigation Scheme in Melbourne's south-east provided over 8 billion litres of recycled water for agriculture in 2006/07.

6.

$300 million upgrade of the Eastern Treatment Plant to produce Class A standard water and complete the business case for using this water in Latrobe Valley industry which would reduce the outfall discharge near Gunnamatta by 80%.
