The Eastern Metropolitan region extends from Melbourne's inner eastern suburbs of Bulleen and Doncaster, north across the Yarra River to Lower Plenty and Eltham, and across to Bayswater, Croydon and Ferntree Gully in the east below the Dandenong Ranges. The most southerly suburb is Rowville.
Some of the projects the Brumby Government is taking action to secure water for all Victorians communities include:

1.Desalination plant in the Wonthaggi region to supply water via 85km pipeline to Melbourne.
2.Provide $1000 rebate for large water tanks.
3.Smart Urban Water Initiative and Recycling for Stormwater grants, Water Recycling Fund, and Water Conservation Programs.
4.Set target for industry to reduce water use by 10%.
5.$110 million Melbourne Main sewer replacement.
6.
Accelerate septic tank replacement, upgrade sewerage infrastructure, further reduce storm water pollution and improve monitoring along the Yarra River as part of our $585 million Yarra Action Plan.
