Southern Metropolitan region includes the Royal Botanic Gardens and Government House, Albert Park Lake, Cranbourne, Frankston, Rippon Lea mansion, the Caulfield Racecourse, Como Park, and Fishermans Bend industrial area as well as a number of commercial and shopping districts.

Some of the projects where the Brumby Government is taking action on roads and public transport include:

1.

$2.5 billion EastLink project, which will provide a 40 kilometre link connecting Melbourne’s eastern and south-eastern suburbs.

Abolished Zone 3.

3.

Refurbish Narre Warren and Highett Railway Stations, providing new car-parking facilities at Huntingdale, Frankston and Narre Warren Railway Stations.

4.

Duplicate Thompson Rd between the Mornington Peninsula Freeway and Frankston-Dandenong Rd.

5.

Delivery of M1 (Monash Freeway) upgrade.

6.

Additional park and ride spaces including at Cranbourne.
