The Eastern Metropolitan region extends from Melbourne's inner eastern suburbs of Bulleen and Doncaster, north across the Yarra River to Lower Plenty and Eltham, and across to Bayswater, Croydon and Ferntree Gully in the east below the Dandenong Ranges. The most southerly suburb is Rowville.
Some of the projects where the Brumby Government is taking action on roads and public transport include:

1.$2.5 billion EastLink project, which will provide a 40 kilometre link connecting Melbourne’s eastern and south-eastern suburbs.
2.Abolished Zone 3.
3.Ordered 18 new trains to cut congestion.
4.Expansion of SmartBus network including Red Orbital SmartBus from Box Hill to Altona.
5.Expansion of SmartBus network including Green Orbital SmartBus from Nunawading to Airport West.
6.$13.6 million in funding for the duplication of Kellets Road. Kellets Road carries more than 20,000 vehicles per day. The duplication includes between Taylors Lane and Napoleon Road and also upgrade of the Napoleon Road roundabout to a signalised intersection.
