For the eighth consecutive year, the Government is delivering a budget surplus of at least $100 million, while maintaining our triple-A credit rating and continuing to invest in vital infrastructure.

Victoria continues to build the diverse and robust economy needed to succeed in a rapidly changing global environment, meet the demands of a growing population and tackle significant environmental challenges.

Sound financial management

  • Maintained Victoria’s triple-A credit rating
  • Maintained an operating surplus of more than $100 million for eight consecutive years

A competitive business environment

  • Introduced tax cuts worth over $4 billion
  • Cut payroll tax from 5.75% to 5.00% from July 1, 2008
  • Slashed the top rate of land tax from 5% to just 2.5%, increased the threshold from $85,000 to $225,000, and made significant cuts to the middle rates

A strong economy

  • Over the last eight years Victoria's average annual GSP has outgrown all of the non-resource states.
  • Since we were elected more than 450,000 new jobs have been created in Victoria – equivalent to around 1000 a week
