Southern Metropolitan region includes the Royal Botanic Gardens and Government House, Albert Park Lake, Cranbourne, Frankston, Rippon Lea mansion, the Caulfield Racecourse, Como Park, and Fishermans Bend industrial area as well as a number of commercial and shopping districts.
Some of the projects that the Brumby Government is taking action on to ensure local families have the best health system include:

1.Mental health patients will benefit from a new Prevention and Recovery Care (PARC) service which at South Yarra. The Bayside Health facility brings the number of PARC services across Victoria to five, with three more expected to open soon.
2.
New Casey Hospital: A wide range of specialty surgery is undertaken including breast, plastic and reconstructive, orthopaedic and urology surgery. The hospital includes: 28 emergency department beds providing 24-hour adult and paediatric emergency services to the community.
3.Redevelopment at Dandenong Hospital. The $34 million project includes 65 more beds and a more functional and efficient hospital and an upgrade to the Emergency Department. The 14-bed Intensive Care Unit provides six more beds than were available previously.
4.New $60 million elective surgery centre at the Alfred Hospital to treat more than 48,000 patients each year and will separate short-stay elective procedures, including surgery, from emergency care.
5.Monash Medical Centres new $10 million Emergency Department. It includes separate waiting and treatment areas for adults and children as well as a short stay observation unit and a separate ‘fast track’ area for patients who can be treated and discharged quickly.
6.$45 million redevelopment of Frankston Hospital to perform additional elective surgery and treat more intensive care patients.
The project includes an additional two theatres and two day-procedure rooms.
