The North and West Metropolitan region encompasses the western and northern suburbs of Melbourne and their outer lying areas, as well as central Melbourne encompassing suburbs from Werribee to Eltham.
Some of the projects that the Brumby Government is taking action on to ensure local families have the best health system include:

1.$27.5 million redevelopment at the Northern Hospital. The redevelopment includes: 64 additional medical inpatient beds; an expanded and a new-look emergency department.
2.Emergency patients needing observation at Western Hospital Footscray have a new $913,000 eight-bed short stay unit. The new short stay unit at Footscray has treated more than 1100 people in the emergency ward, providing them with a dignified setting while they are under observation.
3.Mental health services in Werribee have been boosted with the opening of a new $900,000 four-bed Mental Health Short Stay Unit at Werribee Mercy.
The new unit will help provide short-term care and help to assess patients more safely, quickly and effectively.
4.Families in Melbourne’s western suburbs now have greater access to state-of-the-art medical imaging services with the addition of a $4.5 million MRI machine at Sunshine Hospital.
Plus $184 million to expand Sunshine Hospital, providing an extra 64 beds.
5.$13.2 million Craigieburn Health Service. The new Craigieburn Health Service will concentrate on services that can be provided on a same day basis.
6.New $2.2 million Reservoir ambulance station. The Reservoir branch, which services the suburbs of Reservoir, Kingsbury, Bundoora, Heidelberg and Preston, has responded to around 400 cases every month since first operating from a temporary base.
