Loddon regional map

The Loddon region is located north west of Melbourne and extends from Mildura on the Victorian / New South Wales border, through regional centres such as Swan Hill, Kerang, Boort, Bendigo and Kyneton to the south.

Some of the projects that the Brumby Government is taking action on to ensure local families have the best health system include:

1.

$7.7 million overhaul of the 120-year-old Echuca Hospital.

This revamp has delivered a raft of upgrades, with 2 new operating theatres, day procedure suites and a new central sterile supply department.

2.

A new $1.7 million CT scanner at Bendigo.

The new machine will enable Bendigo Health Care Group to do X-ray scans on about 7500 patients per year, an increase of 20 per cent.

3.

Ambulance services have been boosted across the region with a new 24 hour MICA unit at Bendigo, $1.2 million for the station at Romsey and a new $1 million station at Irymple.

4.

Doubled the Maldon Hospital bottom-line budget with a massive 107.5 per cent increase – since 1999 and committed $15 million to upgrade the Alexandra and District Health Service.

5.

$9.5 million upgrade to the emergency department and a new ambulance facility as part of the redevelopment of Maryborough Hospital.

The redevelopment includes a major upgrade to the emergency department, as well as upgrades to birthing, pharmacy, medical records and dental services.

6.

New Nurse-On-Call service with more than 10,000 local calls made in a year. Local families regularly use the triage service seeking medical advice about symptoms such as vomiting and fever, abdominal pain and discomfort, diarrhoea, nausea and chest pain.
