The Hume region in the north-east of the State extends from the New South Wales border in the north to the outskirts of Melbourne. 

Hume encompasses the area of Victoria that is bound by Corryong to the east, Kinglake to the south, Shepparton/Mooroopna to the west and Wodonga to the north.

Some of the projects that the Brumby Government is taking action on to ensure local families have the best health system include:

1.

Northeast Health’s new, 60-bed nursing home in Wangaratta.
 

The $11 million project contains a number of environmentally-friendly initiatives including large water saving measures.

2.

Boosts for Ambulance Stations across the region with a new Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to coordinate the dispatch of ambulance crews in Wangaratta, an upgrade for the Bright Station, a $1.25 million upgrade for the station in Shepparton and a new station at Mooroopna.

3.

$10 million redevelopment of Goulburn Valley Health’s Shepparton Base Hospital.

It includes a redeveloped and expanded accident and emergency department and a new ambulatory care centre.

4.

Nathalia District Hospital redevelopment.

The new hospital will include a 26-bed facility, emergency department, GP clinic, allied health facilities, day care, visiting room and administration area.

5.

$10.5 million redevelopment of Yarrawonga District Health Service.  

This includes construction of a new residential aged care facility and a staged redevelopment of acute services.

6.

New high-tech medical imaging services with a $4 million MRI machine in Shepparton.
The $4 million for the MRI included $630,000 for a specially-constructed building that houses the machine.
