The Barwon South West region takes in the Western District of Victoria and covers the natural and built environment from the South Australian border to Geelong and Queenscliff and from the south coast to the Southern Grampians.
Some of the projects that the Brumby Government is taking action on to ensure local families have the best health system include:

1.New $26.1 million emergency department at Geelong Hospital to cater for an anticipated growth in patients to 50,000 per year by 2020.
It will include state-of-the-art facilities and be based on an environmentally sustainable design. .
2.$90 million committed to the redevelopment of Warrnambool Hospital – one of Victoria’s most significant rural health projects. Stage one of the redevelopment includes construction of a new ambulance station and a new extended care unit.
3.Introduction of the Nurse-On-Call service with more than 17,500 local calls made in a year. Local families regularly use the triage service seeking medical advice about symptoms such as vomiting and fever, abdominal pain and discomfort, diarrhoea, nausea and chest pain.
4.Andrew Love Cancer Centre - $20 million redevelopment includes two new linear accelerators and two new treatment bunkers. $763,500 equipment funding boost to provide eight new anaesthetic machines for the theatre suite and a new and modern ultrasound system for the imaging area.
5.Boosts for Ambulance services across the region with a new station at Warrnambool, a $1.4 million new station at Belmont (which is also the regional office), a new $1.4 million station at Lara and a 24 hour Geelong MICA.
6.Boost for Ambulance services on the Bellarine Peninsula with the new $1.2 million Ocean Grove Station. The new station provides 24-hour emergency response. Other ambulance commitments include new stations at Anglesea and Timboon, refurbish the station at Norlane and upgrade services at Colac, Anglesea and Timboon.
