Southern Metropolitan region includes the Royal Botanic Gardens and Government House, Albert Park Lake, Cranbourne, Frankston, Rippon Lea mansion, the Caulfield Racecourse, Como Park, and Fishermans Bend industrial area as well as a number of commercial and shopping districts.

Some of the projects where the Brumby Government is taking action on Environment and Climate Change include:

1.

Extend Royal Botanic gardens at Cranbourne.

2.

Restore Mentone and Aspendale beaches.

3.

Melbourne’s green wedge areas are protected by legislation.

4.

Introduced Energy and Resource Efficiency Plans for Victoria’s top and energy and water users. The plans will help business improve their energy and water efficiency and reduce waste production.

5.

Introduce a rebate program to replace inefficient appliances.

6.

Victoria’s resource recovery rate continues to rise. Most recent data shows that 60%, or 705,000 tonnes of waste is diverted from landfill each year, enabling more efficient use of resources and saving around 440,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases.
