Gippsland regional map

 

The Gippsland region stretches along the coast from the New South Wales border to Venus Bay and Wilsons' Promontory. It takes in towns such as Warragul, Moe, Traralgon, Omeo, Foster and Orbost.

Some of the local schools where the Brumby Government is taking action include:

1.

Marlo - Rural Training Centre. A $2.8 million residential rural learning centre modelled on the successful Alpine school at Dinner Plain to cater for year nine students from across the state.

2.

Supporting local families with a student starting Prep or Year 7 in 2008 are eligible to receive a $300 School Start Bonus voucher, giving students the best possible start to their primary and secondary schooling.

3.

East Gippsland Specialist School. $500,000 to provide a home crafts and workshop specialist learning hub

 

4.

Providing the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) to help low-income families meet the costs associated with their child’s education. 

The combined allowance for each child this year is: $430 for parents or carers of secondary school students; and $215 for parents or carers of primary school students.

5.

Local schools participating in the ‘Go for your life’ Kitchen Garden Project which promotes healthier lifestyles through greater physical activity and healthy eating includes Foster Primary School

6.

Moe (South Street) Primary School. The $4.2 million redevelopment includes a new general purpose classroom, a library and an administration centre.
