The Barwon South West region takes in the Western District of Victoria and covers the natural and built environment from the South Australian border to Geelong and Queenscliff and from the south coast to the Southern Grampians.

Some of the local schools where the Brumby Government is taking action include:

1.

Upgraded local schools include Colac Primary School, Barwon Heads Primary School and Warrnambool College.

2.

There are now record low class sizes across Victoria, with Prep to Year 2 average class sizes reduced to 20.7 in 2007 (down from 24.3 in 1999).

3.

Supporting local families with a student starting Prep or Year 7 in 2008 are eligible to receive a $300 School Start Bonus voucher, giving students the best possible start to their primary and secondary schooling.

4.

Local schools participating in the ‘Go for your life’ Kitchen Garden Project which promotes healthier lifestyles through greater physical activity and healthy eating includes the Surfside Primary School.

5.

Providing the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) to help low-income families meet the costs associated with their child’s education. The combined allowance for each child this year is: $430 for parents or carers of secondary school students; and $215 for parents or carers of primary school students.

 

6.

Re-equip technical and science classrooms at all secondary schools across Victoria.
