The Eastern Metropolitan region extends from Melbourne's inner eastern suburbs of Bulleen and Doncaster, north across the Yarra River to Lower Plenty and Eltham, and across to Bayswater, Croydon and Ferntree Gully in the east below the Dandenong Ranges. The most southerly suburb is Rowville.

Some of the projects the Brumby Government is taking action on to make sure the streets are safe include:

1.

Recently provided funding for the replacement for the Police Station at Box Hill.

2.

Introduced new hoon and graffiti legislation.

3.

Doubled the penalties for possession of controlled weapons and prohibited weapons.

4.

Allocated a $10 million fund to supply Victoria Police with new weapons.

5.

Providing funding for new or refurbished fire stations at Chirnside Park, Croydon, Ferntree Gully, Kalorama, Lilydale, Sassafras, Warrandyte and Yarra Junction.

6.

Funded a new police station at Rowville; and replacing stations at Lilydale, Yarra Junction, Pakenham, Belgrave, Croydon, Olinda and Warrandyte.
