Black Forest Timber Mill To Go Solar

27 February 2015

The Black Forest Timber Mill in Woodend is set to be powered by solar energy thanks to a $100,000 investment by the Andrews Labor Government.

In Woodend for the Macedon Ranges Sustainable Living Festival, Minister for Energy and Resources, Lily D’Ambrosio, announced the Government’s support for the installation of a 30 kilowatt solar system at the mill by the Macedon Ranges Sustainability Group (MRSG).

MRSG is a not-for-profit organisation with about 350 members whose vision is to create and nurture sustainability by promoting local solutions and prosperity across the Macedon Ranges.

MRSG will own the solar system and be responsible for project managing its installation, operation and maintenance.

The solar system is expected to provide sufficient capacity to meet the needs of mill tenants Artisans of the Mill, which shapes furniture, and TimberSearch, which sources and sells recycled timber.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Energy, Lily D’Ambrosio:

“The Andrews Labor Government is working with the Macedon Ranges Sustainability Group to help it achieve its goal of moving to renewable energy.”

“This initiative at the Black Forest Timber Mill in Woodend is a great example of what can be achieved when locals and the government work together.”

Quotes attributable to Member for Macedon, Mary-Anne Thomas

“By switching to solar power, the Black Forest Timber Mill will cut its carbon footprint and help inspire others in regional Victoria to move to renewables.”
