Big Win For Women’s Footy And Netball In Woorinen

04 July 2017

More women and girls in Woorinen will be scoring goals thanks to new female friendly change rooms for netballers and umpires.

Minister for Sport John Eren officially opened Stage 1 of the Woorinen Recreation Reserve pavilion redevelopment, which will open more doors for locals to play the sports they love.

In the past, home and away teams playing at the ground shared facilities – not anymore.

The Andrews Labor Government’s $100,000 investment through the Country Football and Netball Program has built new, fully-accessible home and away netball and umpire change rooms.

It means women and girls can now umpire footy and play netball, closer to home, and get ready for the big game in facilities they can truly be proud of.

The upgrade will also benefit the clubs youth girls team. Female friendly change rooms will help the club develop more female players and field a senior women’s squad in the future.

It’s also a big win for the entire community, with the pavilion used by the Woorinen Cricket Club, the Woorinen Progress Association, RSL Club, Swan Hill Region Field Days, local schools and community groups.

Grassroots football and netball competitions are booming across Victoria, with more than 320 new female footy teams and more than 300,000 people playing netball.

That’s why the Labor Government is getting on with replacing and upgrading ageing grounds and facilities across regional Victoria – so grassroots clubs like the Woorinen Football Netball Club can grow and welcome more members than ever before.
