Berwick Health Centre Of Excellence To Put People First

02 December 2016

The Andrews Labor Government is putting people first in Melbourne’s south-east with $10 million for a new health training facility at Chisholm Institute in Berwick.

The centre of excellence will feature nurse training and simulation laboratories, learning areas and staff accommodation.

The new building, to be built at the Kangan Drive site, forms part of the Berwick Health and Education Precinct, which also includes Casey Hospital, the new St John of God Hospital and Monash University’s Berwick campus.

Our investment means locals in the south-east will have access to training closer to home – while also meeting an increased demand for nurse training in the area.

On top of the money for the facility, Chisholm will receive $300,000 from Labor Government’s Specialised Teaching Equipment Initiative for health training equipment including a new adult patient simulator and an automated medication dispensing system.

From 2017, Chisholm Institute will join forces with La Trobe University to offer degrees across Melbourne’s south-east, including degrees in healthcare, creating pathways for students to move from TAFE to university.

On top of the $10 million, Chisholm will receive $1 million to ensure it’s ready to hit the ground running when Skills First is introduced in January.

The Labor Government was elected to put people first and that means delivering on the things that matter most to people – including making sure locals have access to real training so they can get a real job.
