The Andrews Labor Government has announced the appointment of Vincent Chrisp Architects to design the Morwell Hi-Tech Precinct.
Visiting Morwell today, Minister for Industry and Employment Wade Noonan said the firm would be responsible for master planning of the $17 million development – which will drive innovation and create jobs in the Latrobe Valley.
During construction, the project will create at least 80 new jobs, with hundreds of on-going full-time jobs to follow.
Vincent Chrisp Architects is currently working on the redevelopment of the Federation Training Automotive centre in Warragul and the new Gippsland Tech School.
The firm has also completed a variety of projects with a number of Victorian universities and TAFE institutes.
The Hi-Tech Precinct is based at the Federation Training site in Morwell and brings together the Gippsland Tech School, Federation University, Federation Training, local government and Fujitsu.
Site surveying and key master planning works will soon begin at the site – with detailed design work for the innovation centre to follow.
Construction will commence in May on a $6.5 million Tech School at the Precinct – due to be completed in early 2018.
The Hi-Tech Precinct is on track to be operational in 2020, with community and industry to be consulted over the life of the project.
Fujitsu is working with Precinct partners on testing an ‘open innovation laboratory’ to bring together research, business and education communities.
