A Stronger TAFE For Geelong

28 April 2017

Geelong locals will have access to more opportunities to get the skills they need to get a job, thanks to $6.6 million for The Gordon from the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Training and Skills, Gayle Tierney, today visited The Gordon’s Geelong City Campus to announce funding from the Stronger TAFE Fund, which allows TAFEs to do what they do best – train students.

In making the announcement, Ms Tierney visited the building where the TAFE’s Health, Science and Community Care flagship courses are being delivered, including the Diploma of Nursing and Certificate III in Individual Support, which have been supported by this Government through the TAFE Back to Work Fund.

The Gordon’s City Campus is benefiting from a significant Rejuvenation Project and will also be the home for the new Geelong Tech School, opening in mid-2018.

The Gordon has strong partnerships with employers across a range of industries and some of the highest student and employer outcomes in the TAFE sector.

The Stronger TAFE funding will allow it to deliver on its distinct role as a public provider and will give the TAFE the resources needed to address industry skill gaps and deliver new innovative training in Geelong.

The Gordon has received more than $39.4 million from this Government including $6 million from the TAFE Back to Work Fund, to help provide quality training services to all Victorians.

Through Skills First, the Government is overhauling Victoria’s training and TAFE system, guaranteeing funding to secure the future of TAFE and making sure Victorians have the right skills for the jobs of today and tomorrow.

Skills First builds on the Government’s investment in TAFE since 2014 – which has included new buildings, reopening closed campuses, rolling out the latest cutting edge equipment and restoring quality to the system.
