The Andrews Labor Government is investing $2.5 million to establish three Skills and Jobs Centres across the Melbourne CBD.
The money is part of the Labor Government’s $15 million commitment to establish the one-stop-shop Skills and Jobs Centres across Victoria.
Minister for Training and Skills Steve Herbert made the announcement during a visit to the central Skills and Jobs Centre at the Centre for Adult Education in Degraves Street this morning.
The Degraves Street site will also house the Victorian Skills Commissioner Neil Coulson and a Department of Education and Training front of house.
The two other Skills and Jobs Centre will be established at RMIT’s City Campus and at the William Angliss Institute of TAFE on Latrobe Street.
The centres are the first point-of-call for students looking to start training, workers needing to reskill, unemployed workers needing support for retraining and work placement and for employers.
The former Liberal Government’s cuts to the training sector came at the same time that unemployment and youth unemployment were at extremely high levels.
These centres will help link jobseekers, employers and students to ensure they’re engaged in quality training that’ll lead to a job at the end of their course.
Each of the centres will be tailored to meet the needs of the community and industries, with coordinated, intensive support services.
