175 New Jobs In A Manufacturing Boost For Ballarat

04 April 2017

Local manufacturing in Ballarat will be boosted by an additional 175 jobs as local businesses expand operations and grow a highly-skilled workforce.

Visiting Ballarat today, Minister for Industry and Employment Wade Noonan announced three local businesses would create new jobs and put local production into overdrive.

Australia’s largest heavy vehicle trailer manufacturer MaxiTRANS will create 100 new jobs after being awarded a contract to build 400 road trailers for Coles supermarkets in New South Wales and Western Australia.

The $60 million contract is expected to create additional jobs through local supply chain companies.

Gekko Systems in Mitchell Park will invest $1 million to custom engineer biodigester systems for dairy farms, creating an additional 50 jobs.

The innovative technology acts like an artificial stomach that breaks down organic material to produce renewable energies and offset retail power costs. Farmers will be able to dispose of waste in a more environmentally-friendly way.

Gekko Systems received a grant from the Labor Government’s Sector Growth Program.

A leading manufacturer of high-performance transmission parts is also creating 25 new jobs and expanding local production.

Albins Performance Transmissions will purchase and install new equipment to help meet current defence and motorsport contracts and open up opportunities in new markets.

Ballarat has a long and proud history of manufacturing, with more than 4,600 people employed across more than 300 businesses. Since 2014, an additional 12,400 jobs have been created across all Ballarat industries.

The Labor Government is supporting our high growth industries to create jobs and help transition the economy towards an advanced manufacturing state.
